Full Description
Cockatoos Cabin is set amongst the trees in Gondwana land. Bookings can be made through AirBnb. (airbnb.com.au/h/cockatoos-cabin).
Guests can access Purlingbrook Falls Walk across the road, with views from the top of the escarpment looking out towards the Gold Coast and ocean. Go left onto Purlingbrook Track to reach the bottom of the waterfall. From there, a shorter track takes you to the best swimming hole on the mountain, Warringa Pool. Then complete the Purlingbrook circuit to loop back to the house.
If you turn right onto Purlingbrook Track from the house instead of left, you soon reach Tannanaba lookout – a great spot for a sunrise coffee or sunset glass of wine. Another 5 minute walk from there is the town centre, where Dancing Waters Cafe offers great food, and the General Store can supply any forgotten items.
The beauty of this location is that one of Queensland’s iconic walks is on your doorstep, yet there is very little traffic – no parking headaches from weekend day-trippers. It is a secluded street with no houses across the road, and you truly feel in the forest while retaining all the comforts of home.
The house is pleasant, with ample heating and a full kitchen, including a coffee machine, rice cooker, stab mixer, microwave, toaster and kettle. The fireplace is cosy in winter and there is a selection of board games and books in case of wet weather. Tennis racquets are provided for those wanting a hit at the charming local court, surrounded by tall trees and the sound of a stream nearby.
Each bedroom has direct access to a bathroom, which is convenient if two couples wanted to stay without sharing bathrooms. The house can also accommodate a family with 3 children, as the second bedroom has a Queen bed and a King Single bed. That bedroom has a low table with chairs for young kids to get busy at – away from parent chatter or the TV.
It is rejuvenating to laze about on the deck here, watching the cockatoos that often roost next door. We are happy to share our getaway with you and hope you enjoy the restorative peace and quiet of our little cabin.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
There is no petrol station or large supermarket on the mountain. Guests should stock up on food and fuel before driving up to this secluded hamlet.
Pets are not allowed.
This property is exactly as described. Very clean with little touches like soap, shampoo & conditioner and tissues provided for the guests. Quiet location with nothing but the birds and insects to keep you company. Jacqui is a great communicator and provided a very helpful folder of all you need to know about the house and Springbrook. Highly recommended.

One of my absolute favourite places I have stayed in a long time. Beautiful views, lovely town and affordable. If you need a weekend away to get off the grid for a bit, I would not recommend anything else! Jacqui was amazing, anything we needed she responded within minutes ☺️

Jacqui’s place was perfect! A well decorated, clean, comfortable home nestled amongst the trees. Perfectly located to appreciate the surrounding beautiful and generous natural environment . Two self contained bedrooms with shared living space perfect for a pair of adventurous couples or family. The photos are accurate but do not do its comfort justice. I will definitely return for my next hiking adventure at Springbrook!

This property was spotless and in a great location. It contained everything we needed but no extra clutter to collect dust etc. It was also really easy to heat. We’ve stayed in Springbrook on a number of occasions and were prepared for the cold but the combination of reverse cycle air con, oil heaters and the fire meant the house was toasty warm. There was also a great compendium that explained not just the local walks and amenities but also all the little quirks of the property so it was really clear how everything worked. Would highly recommend.

It felt like the house was a part of the natural surroundings as it was immersed in the forest with birds calling, a resident bush Turkey scratching on its mound and wonderful waterfall walks and lookouts close by. The house was spacious and relaxing, outdoor on the verandah or with a cozy fireplace in the lounge. Our 6 year old grandson enjoyed having a bedroom with his own bathroom attached, activity table, play mat and toys provided. A great place for a break.

A beautiful peaceful spot amongst the trees with walking tract literally on the doorstep. Jacqui’s house is spotless, neat and tidy and tastefully decorated. Thoroughly enjoyed the early mornings on the deck watching crested white cockatoos flying through the tall trees. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend.
